One of the most difficult interview questions to answer is “Tell me about yourself.”  It is awkward to think about what information the person is really hoping to hear.  It is important to be prepared to answer this question.  You also need to be able to answer this question when you meet someone with whom you want to network.  One way to prepare for this type of question and situation is to prepare a Personal Introduction.  This could also be called a 30 second commercial, 2 minute commercial, or elevator speech.  The implication is that you have about 30 seconds to 2 minutes while riding an elevator with someone to tell them about yourself.  So what are you going to say? Things that you may want to include in your personal introduction/commercial: Education Qualifications Job related skills Experience Career goals You will want to write this out and add it to your portfolio.  Be sure to review your personal introduction/commercial on your way to a job fair, interview, networking event.  You will also want to think about ways to modify your commercial depending on the situation.  You may want to focus on one or two things like education and career goals.  You want to be prepared to answer the question of “Tell me about yourself” or “What do you do?” but you do not want to sound rehearsed and programmed like you are reading a paper.  It needs to sound natural and comfortable so you want to be comfortable with what you have written.Â
