What do I want you to do? Find a music video, movie trailer (or whole movie if you’re feeling ambitious), or anime or television episode to analyze using one of the concepts from this course (e.g. liminality, cold detachment, cognitive jamming, the uncanny valley, cosmic horror, one of Asma’s three categories of monstrosity, Freud’s theory of child development discussed in the chapter on criminal monstrosity), or anything else that has arisen in your readings of Asma. This should be easy since this is obviously an open-book assignment. Specific Assignment Criteria Your post should be at least 175-250 words and contain these parts: a*A concept from the course with a definition. Make sure to draw on Asma’s book for your definition; otherwise, your use of the concept doesn’t count. Don’t just snag something off an internet dictionary because it might be too general or not related to our course. b*A brief summary of what you’re analyzing (what is it, who made it, its plot) c*Your analysis of your media artifact (For example, does it represent certain fears or anxieties? Does it teach a lesson about social morality as Asma’s Chapter 12 says horror sometimes does? What kind of themes does it explore? Does it represent a new stream of horror or draw our attention to something we usually ignore?).Â
