ESSAY instructions Assessment overview: Write an essay exploring an idea that is relevant to ethics and/or sustainability. You may base your work on one of the topics in the examples given (see list provided separately), or explore another issue that interests you. SPECIFY A TITLE on your submission. Assessment Aims: § To show initiative and the ability to do independent research. § To develop and structure original ideas around a self-selected topic. § To demonstrate comprehension of the chosen issue/texts, and critically evaluate them. Assessment Specifications: § 4-6 pages (1000-1500 words, excluding references). § Sources must be cited using in a formal referencing style (e.g. Harvard style, Chicago author-date, etc.). § If you have little experience structuring essays or need help with academic writing, please get advice from IE’s Writing Centre. Assessment Guidelines: § Clear and correct written English is expected. You may use the first person as a way to express your personal thoughts. However, you should do so in an organized way, so the writing does not lead to a confusion between your opinions and those of others. § You may choose to support your ideas citing sources such as the set readings or other texts.Typically, evidence of independent research is required for top marks. Submission Instructions: On Blackboard, click on ASSIGNMENTS in the sidebar menu. Choose the appropriate assignment and upload your work through Turnitin. Remember that two points will be deducted for each day an assignment is submitted late.
